Transfer from airport (Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca or Sibiu) to Transylvania, Brașov County, Zărnești – our home village and the starting point of the tour. The transfer will takes around 3-3 and 1/2 hours, depend where you’ll fly. Dinner in a local guesthouse .
Zărnești – Livada cu Meri – Poiana – Plaiul Foii. We’ll start crossing Zărnești village and climb to Poiana Mărului village. A 5 km uphill on a dirt road until the top of the hill from where we can admire the surroundings. A nice technical downhill on the edge of “Pleașa” hill. A technical, narrow single track at the foothill of Piatra Craiului mountain will takes us in a holy place for the inhabitants of Zărnești: a monastic shrine built in a cave during the Ottoman invasion, when the Christians were forced to hide in the mountains. We’ll visit the cave and the church and we’ll have picnic lunch in the monastery garden. We have few meters of push-bike until in the highest point of the day: 1100m. Is necessary to admire the impressive ridge of Piatra Craiului before we’ll start the steep downhill among hazelnuts bushes. We’ll follow the trail along the “Bârsa” river for few minutes and we’ll admire a troop of horses. We can enjoy the Romanian dessert “papanași” at “Popasul Craiului Ranch” and in 4 more km on flat we’ll arrive at our guesthouse •40 km with positive altitude change of 800 meters.
From our guesthouse you’ll ride down toward Zărnești on a 12 km dirt road. Visit the local headquarter of Administration of Piatra Craiului National Park, where visitors receive explanations about the importance of environmental conservation in this unique area. Tourists will have access to extensive information about the flora, fauna, and preservation of our area. We’ll entry into the Piatra Craiului National Park and ride up through the Jurassic canyon of “Prăpăstiile Zărneștilor”. After the canyon the landscape becomes even more spectacular: “Poiana Frumoasă” is one of the alpine pastures where from May to September we find shepherds and their flocks. Peștera mountain village is a place with “picture post-card” landscapes and our final point is Măgura mountain village with small colorful traditional houses, welcoming people, delicious food. Overnight in a local guesthouse •35 km with positive altitude change of 800 meters.
Today we have the opportunity of exploring the south side of the Bran country, crossing the border between the old principalities of Walachia and Transylvania. We visit by bicycle scattered mountain villages where we can understand better how the locals live at the country-side in a perfect symbiosis with nature. We go down on a technical single track in Moieciu de Sus, a Romanian traditional mountain village with many small and ancient houses. The inhabitants are livestock breeders, therefore the village has a long time tradition in cheese preparing. •45 km with positive altitude change of 1100 meters.
We descend to Bran where we visit the open-air village museum and Bran Castle better known as “Dracula” Castle, but any connection with him. For many years the castle was home to Queen Marie, Queen Victoria of England’s granddaughter. After picnic-lunch we have to climb to Sohodol village situated at the foothill of Bucegi mountains. Peaceful place, with traditional houses, surrounded by haystacks, with magnificent views of cities around. We descend to Râșnov and visit the “Râșnov fortress”; the last kilometers are in the beginning through forest and in the last part on an asphalted remote road until our guesthouse situated in the center of a small Saxon village named Vulcan. You will be delighted by this special place, history of this area, the hospitality of the hosts, the home made food and drinks. •40 km with positive altitude change of 850 meters
We’ll start the day with 5 km flat on a remote asphalted road until Cristian village. We’ll entry in the forest and ride up on a dirt road another 7 km which takes us in an alpine meadow at the foothill of Postăvaru mountain. Another 4 km uphill until “Poiana Brașov”, the most important ski resort in the country. We can take the cable car to reach the highest point 1800m and enjoy the picnic at Postăvaru chalet. The last downhill is a long, technical single track, challenging and beautiful among old fir trees down to the old city of Brașov. Visit the city, dinner and overnight in a nice guesthouse. 35 km with positive altitude change of 700 meters
After breakfast transfer from Brasov to the airport. In your way to airport is possible to visit some touristic interesting places according to your time.
